Fundraising Concert for Habit for Humanity

Over the past year, the Music Committee has continued to endeavor to share music with FIDA's members and friends, and has been actively involved in showing support to events and functions for a good cause. As a highlight of the year, FIDA has sponsored an internationally renowned pianist and "Steinway Artist", Carol Yu, for a fundraising concert for an international non-profit organization – Habitat for Humanity.

Driven by the vision that "everyone needs a decent place to live", Habitat for Humanity was founded with a humble existence in 1976 and has now grown to cover nearly 70 countries to help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Its work centers around providing technical and organisational expertise in construction as well as house repairing services as part of emergency disaster response for areas affected by natural disasters and as an initiative to improve the living conditions of the underprivileged community.

During the fundraising concert, Carol Yu performed with four other leading musicians, namely, James Cuddeford, Jing Wang, Jeremy Williams and Artem Konstantinov. The concert was successfully held on 13 May 2017 at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong City Hall, and the net proceeds of the concert will be donated to the Bangladesh and Cambodia Projects. We believe our members' generous support will be a true blessing to those in need.

Sedan Chair Race on 30th October 2016

We joined hands with Youth Outreach again this year. We formed the “YO! FIDA Team” and performed “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift at the annual Sedan Chair Race held at the Peak on 30th October 2016. This collaboration was again met with considerable acclaim and was awarded the Champion of the Most Entertaining Team on the race day for the 5th consecutive year;

YO Dancical 2017 (協青街舞劇 2017) – 東.南.西.北.中

For the first time, the “YO! FIDA Team” also won the Best Team Effort award on the race day in recognition of the joint effort and collaboration among FIDA dancers, YO dancers from the School of Hip Hop of Youth Outreach, and young racers from the Transitional Housing for Young Probationers and High-risk Youths – Male Section of Youth Outreach;

We assisted Youth Outreach in its fundraising event “YO Dancical 2017 (協青街舞劇 2017) – 東.南.西.北.中” and watched their show at Shatin Town Hall on 2nd April 2017. Angela Wong from FIDA contributed by writing the lyrics of a Canto-pop song “今天放膽擊中!”, which was performed by the main cast Waibun Wong at the show with much acclaim. FIDA Council members also subscribed for a page of advertisement in the programme booklet as a token of support for the event;

Representatives from our dance team, together with representatives from the Association of Women Accountants HK Ltd and the Hong Kong Women Doctors Association, were again invited to perform at the annual “香港工商婦女慶三八” dinner banquet held on 22nd March 2017. Singers and dancers from the team performed “Dancing Queen” and “We Go Together (from Grease)” and the same was one of the most popular performances for the evening;

We continued having our regular dance classes under the coaching of staff from the School of Hip Hop of Youth Outreach.
