Activities in 2017-2018

The Martial Arts Committee collaborated with the Youth Committee to promote Thai-boxing to youth and families. Our aim is to improve their general fitness and provide a chance for family bonding. As one of the Supporting Organisations for Elite (social enterprise founded by Anne) and 上有高堂, we participated in the Mothers Day and Fathers Day Thai-boxing programs.

Activities in 2015-2016

This year, the Martial Arts Committee and FIDA Ltd, together with Youth Outreach and Elite Thai Boxing and Fitness Ltd (a social enterprise co-founded by our Committee Chair Anne Chen) co-organized ‘FIDA x YO Elite Challengers’. The charity event was held on 4 September 2015 to raise funds for Youth Outreach, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing assistance, support and services to at-risk youths. One of the objectives of the event was to gather support for youths from professionals. Supporting organisations included the Chartered Professional Accountants (Canada), Hong Kong Women Doctors Association and SCAA. Members of the legal and medical profession were also supporters, as well as law student societies from Hong Kong University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and City University to support these youths. The event was a great success. VIPs included Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-Chung (Secretary for Labour and Welfare), Mrs Regina Leung and Mr Rex Tso, a professional boxer. Guest performers included Mr Donald Fan (COO of Paliburg Holdings Ltd) and Ms Pricilia Lam, a barrister.

The Martial Arts Committee also recently launched Thai boxing classes offered to FIDA members, family and friends. The classes are taught by Elite Thai Boxing and Fitness Ltd with an assistant coach from Youth Outreach, continuing the collaboration between FIDA Ltd and Youth Outreach. They are held every week on Friday and Saturday at the South China Athletic Association.

Activities in 2014-2015

The Committee also held a series of trial classes in Thai boxing and Wing Chun between June and August 2014, with interested members continuing to attend classes at present.

We also held a charitable Thai boxing competition in September 2015 in collaboration with Youth Outreach (our long term partner) and student groups from Hong Kong University, Chinese University and City University, with FIDA acting as a co-organizer/supporting organisation. A Working Group was formed to support the organisation for the competition.
