2015-2016

The Legal Department and the Coordination Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong (CLO) have extended invitations to FIDA for various training courses in the past year. From July 2015 to June 2016, China Committee has been tasked with coordinating such invitations. As such, various training course invitations have been circulated to and attended by FIDA members to enhance communication and knowledge exchange between Hong Kong and Mainland China legal practitioners.

Seminar topics focused on catering to the better understanding on the development of China’s legal practice, in particular under the National 13th Five Year Plan; the latest PRC economic trends and foreign policies, including the ‘One Belt One Road’ policy, lending and cross-border Renminbi transactions and investments. Other topics included the issues arising from commercial disputes between PRC and Hong Kong parties, PRC Arbitration Law, key strategies implemented in various free trade zones, the interpretation of PRC’s Company Law and potential issues arising therefrom; as well as Chinese culture and history.

The training courses/seminars were held at prominent Chinese universities and national training centres, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, and the Chinese Academy of Governance in Beijing, and the East China University of Political Science and Law in Shanghai.

In addition to FIDA legal practitioners, a few of the seminars were catered to Hong Kong law firm partners. Certain seminars also enabled participants to translate their participation of the course to Hong Kong Law Society CPD points.

We were honoured to have been graced by the CLO and delegations from various PRC lawyers.
