On 24 March 2019, the China Committee, headed by Carmen Kan and Judy Ngan, together with Past President Angela Ho, organized a Shenzhen visit for FIDA members. We took a tour of “The Great Tide of the Pearl River Exhibition” in Shenzhen followed by a lunch with the Shenzhen Lawyers Association and the Guangzhou Lawyers Association. In the afternoon we held the Greater Bay Area Legal Forum in collaboration with the Shenzhen Lawyers Association and the Guangzhou Lawyers Association.
There were more than 50 attendees with 18 members from FIDA. The Forum involved presentations on litigation, commercial and family laws with each section given by 3 representatives from each association. Our President Benita Yu gave an opening speech on the Greater Bay Area and Hong Kong’s positioning, with Past President Angela Ho giving a presentation on Mutual Recognition of Judgements, Vice-President Julianne Doe giving a presentation on Merger and Acquisition and Past President Sylvia Siu giving a presentation on Mediation in Family Matters. We are grateful to the Shenzhen Lawyers Association for sponsoring the venue. This is the first of a series of forum planned by the China Committee. We will consider organizing similar forums in other Greater Bay regions with the aim of enhancing more interaction amongst women lawyers in the Greater Bay Area.
