Notes to Membership Application

Membership Types
There are three types of membership of Hong Kong Federation of Women Lawyers Limited ("FIDA") and they are as follows:

1. INDIVIDUAL MEMBER: If you are a woman admitted or entitled to be admitted to the practice of law in Hong Kong and if you are a woman admitted or entitled to be admitted to the practice of law in your country and are resident in Hong Kong. Upon the change of your status as non-residents of Hong Kong, you will automatically become an Associate Member.

Membership fee: HK$3,500 for life
 

2A. STUDENT MEMBER (TRAINEE SOLICITOR / PUPIL): If you are a woman trainee solicitor or pupil. You may be admitted to individual membership with the right to vote upon being admitted to practice. 

Membership fee: HK$2,000

2B. STUDENT MEMBER (LAW STUDENT): If you are a woman law student. You may be admitted to individual membership with the right to vote upon being admitted to practice. 

Membership fee: HK$500
 

3. ASSOCIATE MEMBER: If you are a woman admitted or entitled to be admitted to the practice of law in your country and are non-resident of Hong Kong. Upon the change of your status as a resident of Hong Kong, you will automatically become an Individual Member (upon payment of membership fees, if you were not an Individual Member before).

Membership fee: Nil

FRIENDS: If you are not a law student, trainee solicitor, pupil or woman lawyer in any jurisdiction, you may become Friends of FIDA, without voting rights, and subject to the nomination by one Executive Council member of FIDA and the discretionary approval of the Council of FIDA. 

Membership fee: Nil


Application Procedure

If you wish to enroll as an Individual Member, a Student Member or an Associate Member of FIDA, you may complete the application form and payment online (apply now) and become an Individual Member, a Student Member or an Associate Member of FIDA upon acceptance by the Executive Council. 

Each Individual Member will have one vote. Other Members will not have voting rights. Any Member who wishes to retire from membership may, after paying all outstanding dues, give not less than 7 days' notice in writing of her such wish to the Executive Council. By serving such notice that Member will cease to be a Member of the FIDA on such of the later date of the date of resignation specified in her notice or upon expiry of such notice, and the Executive Council will remove her name from the register upon her ceasing to be a Member of FIDA.

Personal Information Collection Statement
We only collect personal data that is relevant and required in order to communicate with you and provide services to you. If we do ask you to provide personal data, we will specify the purpose for which such personal data is collected and ensure that it is only used for the purpose specified at the time of collection.


We may collect personal data, including but not limited to your name and contact details, from you:

(i) at the time of submitting a membership application to us, and

(ii) from time to time when you submit a reply to us indicating your intention to participate in any talk, presentation, seminar, conference, event, activity or survey organised or co-organised by us and/or one of our trusted partners, as listed in the Privacy Policy of FIDA (see here).

We hold, use and disclose your personal data for the following purposes:

(i) process your membership application and payments;

(ii) perform the services you have requested;

(iii) process your application to participate in any talk, presentation, seminar, conference, event, activity or survey and payments;

(iv) communicate to you regarding the services, privileges and discounts available to you as a member;

(v) answer your enquiry;

(vi) maintain a database of membership and events; and

(vii) any other purpose not listed above with your consent.

Failure to provide your personal data may result in us being unable to perform any of the above.

We will keep your personal data on our records accurate and up-to-date. You should immediately inform us of any changes to your personal data after your date of submission. All practical steps will be taken to ensure that personal data will not be kept longer than necessary.

Consent for use of Personal Data and Image
By applying to be a member of FIDA, you agree to provide the personal data as required in the application form and abide by the terms and conditions of our privacy policy as stipulated on our website. You also consent to our use of your images and photographs on our website and in our publications.

 

Membership Fee Payment
Any person who applies online for the membership of an Individual Member, or Student Member or an Associate Member of FIDA can login (login now) to pay the membership fee of HK$1,800/$800/$80 online (pay now) with credit card. Any payment by an alternative method, such as by cheque, should contact enquiry@women-lawyers.org for such arrangement.

Please note that payments made to FIDA are non-refundable and non-transferable, save and except in exceptional cases and subject to payment of a reasonable administrative fee. It should also be noted that even upon payment of a membership fee, admission as a member of FIDA must first be approved by the Executive Council in meeting before membership can be confirmed.
